I can show up for a job that I have earned through my hard work without knowing that I have to overcome assumptions that I am less qualified than any other new hire; and 3. In my opinion, personal identification exclusively (or largely) with the issues facing one's own race, or gender, or other basis for unjust treatment by the majority is itself another form of prejudice and purposeful disenfranchisement of every other minority group. If our society is ever to overcome all forms of prejudice, I believe it will be by effective teaching of objective principles about equality, justice, and fairness rather than by focusing on the rights of African-Americans, or of women, or of Jews, or of the poor, one issue or one group at a time. In my opinion, it is a mistake to promote racial "pride" (for example) for the very same reason that racism is immoral in the first place: race is entirely irrelevant to human worth. In my opinion, therefore, African-American leaders and feminist leaders who devote their lives to the specific cause of "their" groups accomplish much less to benefit all minorities than they might by leading efforts against all forms of prejudice on principle, rather than because one form happens to affect them more than other forms.
